Traffic advisory on procession day

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, JAN. 3. The Delhi traffic police have announced diversions and restrictions at various points in Lutyens' Delhi on Tuesday in view of the procession to mark the birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh. The procession will begin around 10 a.m. and is likely to terminate by late evening at Gurdwara Bangla Sahib. Thousands of devotees are expected to participate in the procession.

Beginning from Rakabganj Sahib Gurdwara, the procession will reach Ashok Road via Pandit Pant Marg and General Post Office (GPO). Subsequently, it will take Ashok Road-Patel Chowk route to reach Parliament Street from where it will move towards Connaught Circus. Taking a turn from Madras Hotel, the procession will then go to Shaheed Bhagat Singh Road, Gole Market and Bhai Veer Singh Marg to reach GPO once again. It will then reach Gurdwara Bangla Sahib via Baba Kharak Singh Marg.

In order to avoid congestion on busy roads like Ashok Road, Talkatora Road and Connaught Circus, the Delhi Traffic police had announced diversions for buses and heavy vehicles which will be in effect from 10 a.m. onwards.

Buses going to Central Secretariat via Shankar Road will terminate at Mandir Marg. Those going from West to South Delhi, via Shankar Road-Upper Ridge Road, will take a diversion to Simon Bolivar Marg from Upper Ridge Road and proceed further.

Those coming to Central Secretariat from Pusa Road -- Springdales round about (R/A) -- will terminate on Rani Jhansi Road and return via Deshbandhu Gupta Road. The buses going towards Central Secretariat taking the Jhandelwalan R/A will terminate on Aram Bagh Lane after taking Rani Jhansi Road.

The ones going to New Delhi railway station via Jhandewalan R/A would take Deshbandhu Gupta Road-Pul Paharganj to reach the destination. No buses would be allowed on Chelmsford Circus-Connaught Place.

Similarly, diversions have been announced at other R/As and intersections like Kamla Market, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg-Press Road, Mandi House and Kasturba Gandhi Marg-Ferozeshah Road. Buses coming from India Gate R/A and going towards Ashok Road, Akbar Road and Kasturba Gandhi Marg will also be stopped on the `C' hexagon itself. No buses or goods vehicles would be allowed on Rafi Marg.
