HYDERABAD, JAN. 3. Reportedly dejected over ill health, a couple committed suicide by consuming pesticide in their house at Shobhana Colony near Balanagar on Sunday night. A lathe-machine owner, S. Mahender Reddy, 31, and his wife, Swapna, were found dead this morning. A suicide note, purportedly written by the couple, was found beside their bodies. It stated that they were "unable to show their faces" to others due to "persistent suffering from the incurable disease". They also mentioned that none was responsible for their death. A native of Begumpet village in Nalgonda district, Reddy was living with his wife and mother, Sugunamma. He married Swapna two years ago. They had no children. After having dinner around 10.30 p.m. on Sunday, the couple went to their room. Sugunamma and Swapna's cousin, Laxma Reddy, grew suspicious, when they did not open the door till 8 a.m. Sugunamma called her neighbours who too knocked on the doors till 10 a.m. Finally, they forced open the doors and found the two dead on the bed. A half-emptied one-litre monochrotophos bottle and two glasses were there . The Balanagar Sub-Inspector, Srinivas Reddy, said that Reddy had withdrawn partnership from the lathe-machine shop two days ago saying his ill health did not permit him to monitor the work.
