Don't blame them

Sir, — This refers to the article "Rethink on adolescence" (Open Page, Jan. 4). Though the view that many youngsters "feed and water their thoughts, actions and conversations with sex," is not entirely wrong, it is unfair to blame the media for it and suggest that there is a moral degeneration among the youth.

If anything, sex is being hyped and unduly sensationalised. While parents and teachers openly discuss issues such as drugs and violence, sex and related topics are considered taboo. Youngsters, therefore, seek information from pornographic magazines, websites and movies.

Swati Roy,
New Delhi
