PONDICHERRY, JAN. 4. A. Anbalagan, MLA and secretary of the Pondicherry State committee of the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, has called upon the administration to extend relief to the retail vendors of fish as they had been badly hit by the tsunami. Mr. Anbalagan told newsmen today that the vendors, mostly women, were had no source of livelihood since the supply of fish had stopped. He appealed to the administration to provide relief to the fish vendors also. Even those who were not fishermen but were residing close to coastal villages should be provided the relief in cash and kind as they had also faced the fury of the tsunami. Their houses were damaged and they too had lost their belongings. The cash assistance of Rs. 12,000 given to fishermen for repair of houses should also be given to non-fishermen living close to the sea as they had also been victims of the tsunami.
