Crop resource groups to boost productivity
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD,
JAN. 4.
The State Government has constituted crop resource groups as part of the innovative steps to improve agricultural productivity in line with the Government's priority for the sector.
This is the first time that the Agriculture Department of any State has introduced the concept to bridge the yield gaps in major crops.
Advisory service
The concept brings researchers, extension functionaries and farmers together. The groups are expected to be a one-stop shop for all problems related to a particular crop.
The Commissioner of Agriculture, Poonam Malakondaiah, said in a press release that CRGs had been formed for paddy, groundnut and cotton and for crop diversification. The idea was to render advisory services to farmers related to a particular crop by providing appropriate technology packages for production, quality, pests and disease control, apart from a fair market price for the produce.
She said that the CRGs were expected to provide leadership to prevent recurrence of many possible problems during the growing season of a crop and give guidelines for improvements.
