Probe TDP's misdeeds: Congress

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, JAN.4. The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee has demanded an enquiry into "all acts of omission and commission" of the previous TDP Government that resulted in loss to the State exchequer. Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, the APCC official spokespersons -- Paladugu Venkat Rao and Md. Jani -- and Warangal DCC president, G. Venkata Ramana Reddy, accused the TDP of launching an "indecent campaign" against projects.

Campaign, a ruse

TDP leaders were afraid that their misdeeds would come to light in due course and hence were trying to divert people's attention by launching a campaign against the irrigation projects.

The TDP tirade against the Government's stand on free power was motivated by petty political considerations, they said. Arguing that the promise of free power required some modifications, they said the Government would not disappoint the farmers.

On with `burden'

Despite the fact that the free power supply imposed a burden of Rs. 1,800 crores on the exchequer annually contrary to the estimated Rs. 400 crores, the Government was continuing the scheme, they pointed out.

The TDP leaders could choose a date and venue for a debate on the contribution of the TDP towards the development of the State, they said.
