HYDERABAD, JAN. 4. The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) has launched a campaign to counter the TDPs criticism on the proposed irrigation projects. The ruling party has decided to release region-wise information on the "Maha Jalayagnam" launched by the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy , and project the TDP tirade as an anti-project stand. Accordingly, the CLP has circulated a note to its MLAs as well to its allies on the status of irrigation facilities. Pointing out that the previous TDP Government had earmarked not more than 3 per cent of the revenue receipts for the irrigation sector in the last nine years, the note says that the Congress Governments had spent between 12 per cent to 23 per cent.
Target TDP
Proposed works on pending projects in the State would in future develop 35 lakh acres of new ayacut in Telangana alone, it says. The TDP neglected the region and did not undertake any project that would benefit it whereas the Congress launched the programme on a war-footing. The note asks the CLP members to explain to people that solution to the region's backwardness lies in the development of the irrigation potential in the region for which the Godavari and Krishna river linking is best suited. Asking the MLAs to launch a vigorous counter campaign, it provides them with a comprehensive insight into the irrigation sector.
