Shiv Kapur on song

KOLKATA, JAN. 4. Shiv Kapur's near perfect round of seven-under 65 gave him a one-stroke lead after the first round of the RCGC Open here on Tuesday.

The RCGC Open is the 11th leg on the Amby Valley PGAI Tour and the first of the two back-to-back events being played here.

Patna's Mohammad Islam was in second place with a six-under 66, while three-time Order of Merit winner on the tour, Mukesh Kumar, stood third with a round of four-under 68.

Shiv Kapur seems to be on song since he won the Surya Nepal Masters in Kathmandu in December. Starting on the back-nine, Kapur birdied the 10th, 12th 16th and 17th to make the turn at four-under 32. He continued his good work with birdies on the first and second holes before dropping his only shot of the day on the par-4 third.

The scores (after 18 holes):

65 Shiv Kapur; 66 Mohd. Islam, 68 Mukesh Kumar; 70 Arjun Singh, Amit Dube, Feroz Ali, Jaiveer Virk, Rafiq Ali, Ranjit Singh, Rahil Gangjee; 71 Amritinder Singh, Gurbaaz Mann, Harinder Gupta, Jumman, Mohd. Salim, Shankar Das, Vijay Kumar, Yusuf Ali. — Our Special Correspondent
