CHENNAI, JAN. 4. The Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Sunil Dutt, today visited tsunami-hit Srinivasapuram, off Santhome High Road, and distributed relief material to the survivors. Mr. Dutt inspected the damaged fishing nets and moved on to the beach where he patiently listened to the residents' complaints about irregularities in the enumeration of victims by revenue officials. The Minister instructed his entourage to ask the people to approach the Nehru Yuva Kendra unit here with their complaints. Mr. Dutt, who landed in Chennai today after a tour of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, said though the extent of damage was greater there, the fishing community here had suffered considerable loss. He referred to the Centre's financial scheme for orphaned girl children as an effort to secure their future. "I have come here to assess the damage for myself. I will inform the Centre about the situation," he said before leaving for Olcott Kuppam in Besant Nagar. The Minister will visit Pondicherry tomorrow. The Nehru Yuva Kendra zonal director, Balasubramanian, youth coordinator Sanjay Santhakumar and Sports Authority of India's State coordinator, Sanjiv Sachdeva, accompanied Mr. Dutt.
