TAMBARAM, JAN. 4. A 22-year-old woman was beaten to death at Netaji Nagar in Nukkampalayam, near Pallikaranai late on Sunday night. Pallikaranai police, who identified the victim as Shauhar Nisha, said Shaukat Ali, her husband, had brought her to Nukkampalayam to reportedly exorcise her of evil spirits. The couple was staying in the house of Sheikh Dawood, Shaukat Ali's brother-in-law. Late last night, the two men are alleged to have beaten the woman to `ward off the evil spirits.' The woman died around midnight. According to the police, who were alerted by neighvours, the woman's body bore cut marks. The body has been sent to the Government Royapettah Hospital for post-mortem. Police have arrested Shaukat Ali and Sheik Dawood for murder.
