37 persons present cheques

CHENNAI, JAN. 4. As many as 37 persons, including the Assembly Speaker, K. Kalimuthu, today handed over cheques for a total of Rs.14,55,44,181 to the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, towards the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund.

Among those who handed over cheques for over and above Rs. 25 lakhs was the Transport Minister, R. Viswanathan, who presented cheques for Rs. 8.81 crores on behalf of the State Transport Corporations, Tamil Nadu Electricity Board and Tamil Nadu Power Finance Corporation.

Cheques had also been handed over on behalf of Satyam Computer Services (Rs.1 crore), Sterling Infotech Group (Rs.1 crore), Sterlite Industries-India (Rs.51 lakhs), Dalmia Cement-Bharat (Rs.51 lakhs), State Bank of India, Chennai Circle (Rs.40 lakhs), Annamalai University (Rs.36 lakhs) and Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Centre (Rs.25 lakhs), an official release said here today.
