Tiruchi
Rejection of used clothes Sir, It was learnt that the tsunami victims rejected used clothes and pre-cooked food as they thought it was an insult to injury. The people should think before making any contribution. Relief could be paid in cash through the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. It would enable the victims get the proper relief.
A.Nabin Akhizza,
* * * Bus service Sir, Private and State Transport Corporation buses, plying between Thanjavur and Kumbakonam, pass through the Old Bus stand to reach the new bus stand as against permitted routes. Passengers bound for Srinagar and Chattimadam area are put to much inconvenience since they have to alight at the new bus stand and board another bus to reach their destination. The authorities concerned should instruct the drivers to adhere to the permitted route via Nall Road.
K.Santhanam,
* * * Banking service Sir, The Union Finance Minister's latest announcement in Parliament that his ministry would not bail out loss-making primary cooperative banks is shocking. It is unfair on the part of the Minister to say so since these banks give one per cent extra interest than any other nationalised banks. People from all walks of life invest their hard-earned money in these banks as they function as per the norms of the Reserve Bank of India. Hence, the announcement is confusing. The authorities should clarify the situation.
R.Jayasankar,
* * * Woes of depositors Sir, Kumbakonam is called as a pensioner's paradise as it has many senior citizens. Most of them depend on the interest earned by deposits made in banks and post offices. Due to volatile financial market and political scenario, there has been continuous fall in banks' interest rates on deposits so that investors throng post offices for saving schemes. But there is always a serpentine queue before the counter. Agents occupy all the available space leaving very little space for genuine customers. Chequebooks have not been issued for the past six months. So, the depositors have to visit the post offices personally. The authorities should rectify the problem.
K.Krishnaswamy,
* * * Transport system Sir, Cities like Tiruchi need a well-planned transport system. But, what exists is highly deplorable and chaotic. Drivers drive their vehicles as per their whims and fancies. Rash driving has become the order of the day. The rules are flouted and the police have become mute spectators. Buses do not stop at respective stops but stop on the middle of the road and thereby block flow of traffic. This leads fatal accidents as two wheelers dash against alighting bus passengers. The authorities should take stock of the situation and replace all old guards with a new vigour.
