Lathicharge on students condemned

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, JAN. 4. The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Students' Unions has given a call for State-wide demonstrations on Thursday, demanding that action be taken against the lecturer and the management representative of Arora Engineering College for the death of a student, Venkateswarulu.

Besides the arrest of the lecturer, Appaji, and Ramesh, the JAC also demanded that Rs.10 lakhs be given as ex gratia to the family of the victim. It also sought an inquiry into the death of students in private educational institutions.

Condemning Monday's lathicharge, JAC representatives said that the death of Venkateswarulu was a sad reflection of the inhuman behaviour of private college managements. "With no regulatory mechanism, private engineering colleges are being run like commercial institutions."
