PONDICHERRY, JAN. 5. The Pondicherry administration has set up a committee to study the presence of any abnormal microorganism along the coastline after the tsunami attack. The committee, headed by the Director of Health and Family Welfare, G. Subramanyam Reddy, comprises microbiologists from the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Pondicherry Institute of the Medical Sciences, Veterinary and Agricultural Colleges. The committee would submit its report in 15 days, E. Valsaraj, Minister for Health, told reporters here today. On the preventive measures taken by his Ministry, he said the people who had been affected by the tsunami were immunised against measles and typhoid. Besides a booster dose of polio vaccine was also given to the children. The next step would be to assess the individual health needs and counsel the affected people.
