Letters to the Editor
Sir, The survivors of the tsunami tragedy have become refugees in their own land. The people's response to the disaster has been overwhelmingly generous. What is required now is a sound administration and an efficient distribution of the relief material.
R.S. Raghavan,
* * * Sir, Government agencies and NGOs should ensure that the victims are provided only the material they need.
* * *
Sir, The images of clothes, medicines and food lying strewn in the affected areas are disturbing. People should not send relief material out of over-enthusiasm.
* * *
Sir, A reputed agency should be entrusted with the task of monitoring the relief work for the tsunami victims. Local governments tend to get tangled in red tape.
Delay in providing relief will defeat the very purpose of the contributions.
S. Nageswara Rao,
* * *
Sir, Television channels should stop showing the images of the disaster while calling for contributions. We understand the extent of the tragedy and can do without such promotions.
