Letters to the Editor
Sir, This refers to the news that the Union Minister, S. Reghupathy, was upset at being subjected to a baggage search at the Madurai airport. Al Gore, former U.S. Vice-President and Democratic Party presidential candidate in the 2000 election, recently narrated an incident. At a U.S. airport, the random selection process picked him up for a thorough search. The airport employee recognised Mr. Gore but went about the task of thoroughly searching him. Mr. Gore did not throw a tantrum. During World War II, there was severe scarcity of essential commodities in London and the Government imposed rationing. Even Ministers stood in line along with ordinary citizens for their turn to buy sugar.
