NEW DELHI, JAN. 5. Claiming that she was discriminated against and subjected to extreme discomfort, a visually challenged M.Phil (Part-II) student of the Central Institute of Education of Delhi University alleged that the scribe provided to her for her National Eligibility Test for lectureship conducted by the University Grants Commission was sub-standard and even mis-marked her objective type answer sheet. According to the student, Amita, she had previously asked UGC to be allowed to bring in her own scribe for the December 26 examination, but it was turned down by officials, stating that as policy rule bringing your own scribe was not allowed. "Instead they asked me to write a request application asking for a scribe to be provided at the examination venue at Jamia Millia Islamia, stating that the person allocated should be able to read and write English. But the scribe assigned to me wrongly marked many answers of my first objective type paper and wasn't helpful when I wanted to get it corrected. I later asked for a change of scribe for my third answer sheet which is a descriptive paper, but it was also turned down," she alleged. Amita said she would be writing to the authorities and will also meet the officials to fight her case.
