Press Academy to focus on ethics in journalism

By Our Special Correspondent

VIJAYAWADA, JAN. 5. The Andhra Pradesh Press Academy chairman, Devulapalli Amar, has stressed the need for sensitising journalists working in different newspapers and electronic media from the mandal level about the ethics of the profession.

Participating in a get-together organised by the Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) here on Tuesday, he said that the academy had no statutory powers to regulate the reports appearing in the media, it would nevertheless concentrate on inculcating ethics that should be followed by the journalists.

Insofar as its affairs were concerned, the academy was taking up programmes for honing the skills of working journalists as well as the new entrants into the profession by organising workshops, seminars and related events.

Academy's agenda

In the light of the ever-increasing number of people entering the profession and the spread of the media to all the mandals and major panchayats, there was no supervision on the reports which was resulting in some aberrations.
