Budget session may begin on February 25

New Delhi. Jan. 5. The budget session of Parliament will in all probability begin on February 25 with the President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, addressing the joint sitting of both the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha. According to the tentative schedule drawn up by the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs, the Rail Budget and the General Budget will be presented on February 26 and 28 respectively.
The Economic Survey will be presented to Parliament a day after the tabling of the Railway Budget and the General Budget will follow on February 28. The first half of the session will last till March 23 after which both Houses will go in for a three-week recess till April 17, to enable the Parliamentary committees to take up the work of scrutinising the budgetary proposals of the different ministries. Parliament will again be in session from April 18 to May 13.
The Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs met this afternoon and drew up a tentative schedule, which will be forwarded to the Union Cabinet for approval.
