TUMKUR, JAN. 5. The president of Tumkur District Congress Committee (TDCC) and former Kunigal MLA, S.P. Muddahanume Gowda, told presspersons here on Wednesday that 4,000 active members have been enrolled in the party through 13 block-level committees. Mr. Gowda said Khan Gufran Javiddhi (of Uttar Pradesh), who has been appointed election officer by the All India Congress Committee to hold elections to posts in the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), and Chakrapani (of Andhra Pradesh), appointed as Mr. Javiddhi's deputy, reviewed the progress in the enrolment of new members on Tuesday. They were accompanied by Susheela Keshavamurthy, KPCC observer for Tumkur district. The TDCC president said that Ms. Susheela is happy that 35 per cent of the new members are women, and that majority of the members are from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and minority communities.
