Easy for seeds

KOLKATA, JAN. 5. All seeded players progressed to the next round in the boys' under-18 singles of the Sunfeast-sponsored junior tennis championship series event at the South Club here on Wednesday.

This section saw full action while most of the seeds in the other three categories — boys' under-14 and girls' under-18 and under-14 — received first round byes.

The top three seeds in the boys' under-18 category, Arpit Sharma, Farid Alam and Arup Mallick, and fifth-seeded Samriddh Burman won their matches in straight sets, while fourth-seeded Baibhav Das was taken to the decider by wild-card Rohan Roy.

The girls' under-18 section also did not see any surprises as the only seed playing in the first round — eighth-seeded Nandita Krishnan of Tamil Nadu — easily got past J. Doondi Priya of Andhra Pradesh. The other AP girls, M. Divya Rao and C. Mohana Sai Madhuri, progressed to the round of 16 with facile wins.
