KOZHIKODE, JAN. 5. The Kozhikode city sub-district was leading today in the district school youth festival being held at Feroke near here. The Kozhikode city sub-district has scored 113 points in the results declared so far. The Koilandi sub-district was close behind with 102 points, while Chevayur was in the third place with a score of 100 points. In the `TTI Kalolsavam,' St.Vincent Colony TTI was leading with 80 points followed by the Government TTI Nadakkave with 74 and DIET Kozhikode with 64. In the UP `Balakalolsavam,' Perambra had scored 64 points, Chevayur 63, and Balussery and Vadakara 56 points each. In the UP `Samskritolsavam,' Meladi had scored 85 points, Perambra 84 points and Chevayur 83 points. In HS `Samskritolsavam,' Balussery scored 65 points, Kunnummal 56 points and Feroke 51 points. Nadapuram scored 55 points, Feroke 50 and Perambra 49 in the UP `Arabi Kalolsavam' while in HS `Arabi Kalolsavam', Nadapuram scored 77 points, Feroke 70 with Kunnummal, Kozhikode rural, Kunnamangalam and Chevayur bagging 54 points each. Contests in Bharatanatyam (boys and girls), Kuchipudi (boys and girls), Kathaprasangam, Mohiniyattom, Monoact, Mimicry, Fancy dress, Mappilappattu, Carnatic music and other items are being held today. The following are some of the winners in the prizes declared today. Bharatanatyam (boys): First: Neeraj K. Nambuthiri (St.Joseph's Boys High School), second: S. Anand(Silver Hills HS). Band melam: G. Alisha (St.Joseph's Anglo-Indian Girls HS); C. Aswathi Mohan (Venerini Girls HS, Feroke). Poetry recitation (High school-Sanskrit): T. Sreenath (RNMHS, Naripetta), Vishnu Yuvaraj (GVHSS, Balussery). Oppana (UP section): C.Shabna Asmi and team (Calicut Girls Higher Secondary School), Saira Banu and team (GMUPS, Nallalam). Drama (UP-Malayalam): C.R.Sajiraj (Perambra UPS), Tridya (MAUPS, Parambilkadavu), and P.Krishna (Krishna UPS, Mannur).
Appeals
As in the previous years, a number of contestants came up with appeals after the prizes were declared.
Photo for souvenir
The organisers have asked first prizewinners to submit their photographs for the souvenir to be published as part of the district youth festival. The photographs are to be submitted to the souvenir editor by January 6, along with the details of the prize. For details contact: 9387526244.
Valedictory session
The school youth festival will conclude on December 6. The valedictory session will be inaugurated by P. Sathi Devi, MP. The district panchayat president, M.K. Nalini, will preside over the function. Contests in 221 items were being conducted at 13 venues. Some of the items in which competitions will be held on January 6 are `Thiruvathirakkali,' `Panchavadyam,' `Kathakalisangeetham,' `Chenda,' `Tayambaka,' `Poorakkali,' `Margamkali' and `Parichumuttukali' among others.
