Clear day

NEW DELHI JAN. 5. The weatherman has forecast a foggy Thursday morning with a mainly clear sky throughout the day. The minimum temperature would hover around 6 degrees Celsius.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded at Safd arjung on Wednesday were 19.3 degrees Celsius and 7.7 degrees Celsius respectively. At Palam, the maximum and minimum temperatures stood at 19.7 degrees Celsius and 6.5 degrees Celsius.

While Safdarjung recorded a maximum relative humidity of 95 per cent, it was 97 per cent at Palam. The minimum relative humidity at the two places were 48 per cent and 50 per cent, respectively.

Fireman dies

NEW DELHI JAN. 5. Another fireman, who had sustained burns and other injuries while dousing a blaze in a plywood godown at Kirti Nagar in West Delhi on December 31, succumbed to his injuries at Safdarjung Hospital today. Five firemen and officials, who injured in that incident, have died so far and at least eight others are still under medical observation.

According to the Fire Department, R.P. Rohilla was declared dead around 7 p.m.

Minors held

NEW DELHI JAN. 5. Six minors have been arrested by the North-East Delhi police for allegedly killing a 16-year-old boy outside his school at Mansarovar Park in North-East Delhi on Tuesday. The accused, who had sustained injuries in a fight earlier, killed the student apparently to take revenge.

According to the police, Sachin Gupta, a student of Government Boys' Senior Secondary School No.1 (Mansarovar Park), was stabbed by a group of teenagers outside the school around 6 p.m. He was rushed to GTB Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Following investigations into the case, the police arrested six juveniles. While four of them were students of the same school, two others were from outside. The knife, allegedly used in the commission of offence, was also recovered.

CBI custody

NEW DELHI JAN. 5. The junior engineer of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the petty contractor who were arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation for allegedly demanding and accepting bribe from a person to clear his building plan on Tuesday were today remanded to three-day CBI custody by a city court.

Meanwhile, in the searches carried out at the houses of the accused -- S.K. Mittal, the Junior Engineer, and Amar Dev, the petty contractor -- soon after their arrest, the CBI recovered more than Rs. 10 lakhs in cash and jewellery.

Boy rescued

NEW DELHI JAN. 5. A 10-year-old boy, who was kidnapped from outside his house at Khajuri Khas in North-East Delhi on December 12, has been rescued by the North-East Delhi police. Two persons have been arrested in this connection.
