Temperature

MADURAI, JAN.5. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 31.3 degree Celsius and a minimum of degree 20.6 Celsius.

Water level

The level in the Periyar dam today stood at 117.4 feet with an inflow of 322 cusecs and a discharge of 700 cusecs. The level in the Vaigai dam was 46.23 feet with an inflow of 672 cusecs and a discharge of 1880 cusecs. The combined Periyar credit stood at 3301 mcft.

No water supply

Water supply in the city will be suspended for two days from January 7 to 8 to enable Corporation officials to take up repair works on the main pipeline.

A statement said the engineers who were working on plugging leaks at some points could not to succeed, owing to high pressure on the pipelines. The supply would resume from January 9.

House burgled

Burglars broke into the house of a doctor at Uthangudi near here and decamped with valuables worth Rs.2.98 lakhs on Tuesday.

According to the police, the burglars entered the house of S. Palanirajan (36) of Uthangidu, breaking open the front door. When the inmates returned home at around 9 p.m., Rs.1.2 lakhs, 49 sovereigns of gold ornaments and two kg of silver utensils among other valuables were missing.

Fingerprint experts and sniffer dogs were pressed into service. Senior police officials visited the spot.

Grievance meet

The superintending engineer, Metro, Madurai, will conduct a grievance day meeting at the Office of the Executive Engineer, North Division, K. Pudur between 10.30 a.m. and 1 p.m. tomorrow.

Consumers residing in Tamukkam, Teppam, Munichalai, Arasamaram, Race Course, Sellur and Tagore Nagar can air their grievances.
