Case transferred to Detective Department
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD,
JAN. 5.
Notwithstanding doubts raised by some quarters, the police are probing all angles pertaining to the case wherein two Mumbai merchants were robbed of seven kg gold ornaments at Begumbazar on Tuesday night.
Four unidentified persons reportedly attacked the duo -- Parikshit and Abhishek -- with knives before relieving them of the jewellery worth over Rs. 45 lakhs at Rajadhani Hotel. The case was transferred to the Hyderabad Detective Department on Wednesday.
The fact that the autorickshaw driver, in whose vehicle the duo returned to the hotel, fled the spot soon after the attack pointed the needle of suspicion towards him, the detectives said.
Police parties
As the traders claimed that they came to Hyderabad from Mumbai and also visited Vijayawada, the police are sending parties to the two cities to check the veracity of their claim. "There is possibility of offenders stalking them on receipt of information that they were carrying so much gold," a police officer said.
As most of the shops were closed when the robbery was committed, the police are finding it difficult to trace the numbers of the two motorcycles on which the culprits sped away.
