This Day That Age
Prime Minister Nehru declared in Ahmedabad on January 5 that a better atmosphere prevailed now than ever before for resolving outstanding Indo-Pakistan problems. Addressing a public meeting at the historic Kankara Lake, he said: "I have no doubt, rather I am fully convinced, that sooner or later these problems will have to be solved. Otherwise both countries will suffer." The Prime Minister said that even now the conflict was between the Governments of the two countries and it had no effect on the relations of the people living in both the countries. "After all who are living in Pakistan? Our culture is one. Our dress is one. The only difference is that more Muslims are living in Pakistan." Mr. Nehru said India's foreign policy which was based on peace and truth had been very successful. "We have today no enmity with any country and we are friends of all. Due to this policy, we have started commanding respect from other nations. We are endeavouring to bring lasting peace throughout the world and we can today say with pride that our efforts have succeeded and there is a definite change in the world's atmosphere. India's policy is not based on the ideals or principles of any other nation, but on its own principles and this is why it has proved successful."
