DEHRA DUN, JAN. 6. Anil Joshi, founder of the Himalayan Environmental Studies and Conservation Organisation (HESCO), has been awarded the T N Khoshoo Award-2005 for his work in conservation and sustainable development. Dr Joshi said it was the recognition of the work of the mountain community. He urged the Planning Commission Vice-Chairman, Montek Singh Ahluwalia, to ensure need-based funds for the creation of sustainable enterprises by the poor but hard working people living in the harsh Himalayan terrain. The lack of development initiatives in the bordering States had led to resentment in the community, which was being exploited by the anti-India forces. The HESCO and the Indian army are engaged in the peace initiative technology mission in Jammu and Kashmir.
