`Rayalaseema vedika' puts Centre on notice

By Our Staff Reporter

KURNOOL, JAN. 6. The president of the Rayalaseema Hakkula Ikya Vedika, T.G. Venkatesh, has urged the Centre to include backwardness of Rayalaseema in Cabinet sub-committee's purview.

Talking to reporters here on Thursday, he said an agitation would be inevitable if the interests of Rayalaseema were ignored. Mr. Venkatesh said that confusion prevailed after the Centre constituted a panel to study the need for second States Reorganisation Committee (SRC).

He said Telangana supporters could have succeeded had they convinced the Centre to constitute the SRC rather than being content with the Cabinet sub-committee. He said now the Telangana Rashtra Samithi should accept whatever recommendations the sub-committee made.

People worried

He said people of Rayalaseema were worried about the developments at the State and national levels, as they had to take a prudent decision in case Telangana was separated from the State.

Mr. Venkatesh said the TRS joining the Union Cabinet was justified but its presence on the State Cabinet was something uncomfortable to itself and others. Mr. Venkatesh analysed that the Congress party had constituted the Cabinet sub-committee only to rectify the mistakes committed in taking a stand on separate Telangana issue.

He said Mr. K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who had agreed to constitution of the SRC before the elections, altered his demand and got the panel constituted. He said Rayalaseema Hakkula Ikya Vedika would hold a meeting of intellectuals at Hyderabad on Wednesday to discuss the future of Rayalaseema. A representation would be made to the Prime Minister and the All-India Congress Committee president, Sonia Gandhi.

The Vedika leaders, Lambodaram, the DCC secretary, M. Sudhakar Babu, Vijayakumar Reddy and others were present.
