Letters to the Editor
Sir, This refers to the article, "Freedom to women blessing or blemish?" (Open Page, Jan. 4). The author is worried about girls cutting classes, being influenced by foreign culture, etc. Surely all this applies to boys as well? If the author takes a more realistic sample of Indian women, he will agree that for most of them, freedom is neither a blessing nor a blemish it is a dream.
Ila Chauhan,
* * * Sir, Freedom is a blessing only to a handful of women the educated and the empowered few. To the rest, it means nothing. Is it not true that in spite of all the social and educational advancement, most women, including the well-qualified ones, are confined to cooking and doing household work? What freedom are we talking about?
Shadaan Alam,
