Farmers' convention in Punjab

CHANDIGARH, JAN. 6. Five major farmers organisations of Punjab will hold a two-day convention from Saturday on the `Agriculture Crisis' in the state in Barnala.

Experts from the Punjab Agriculture University (PAU) will also participate in the convention, being organised jointly by Khetibari te Kisan Vikas Front and NGO Nature Human-Centric People's Movement (NHCPM), NHCPM spokesman Sukhdev Singh Bhopal said here yesterday.

The convention will also discuss the present global and national scenario in the agriculture sector, he said, adding that noted agri-scientists Dr Satnam Singh and Dr R L Yadav from Delhi will also share their views.

NHCPM president and Jammu-based political and environmental activist R P Saraf from Jammu would present his paper on the prospects of agriculture in the backdrop of the prevailing socio-economic and political scenario worldwide.

The paper would also focus on ``the poor condition'' of agriculture in Punjab, Mr Bhopal said. - UNI
