BELGAUM, JAN. 6. Nagangouda Girimallanagouda Patil, reporter of Deccan Herald, died at his Channammanagar residence here on Thursday morning. He was 68. Mr. Patil is survived by his wife and son. Widely known as N.G. Patil, he started his career with Vishal Karnataka in 1958, which was then edited by veteran journalist Patil Puttappa. Subsequently, he served other Kannada newspapers before joining Deccan Herald. He retired from service in 1998. But the newspaper extended his service. Mr. Patil, who hailed from Gokak, was a committed Kannada activist. He also played a key role in the struggle to retain Belgaum in Karnataka. He was honoured with the Karnataka Patrika Academy Award 10 years ago.
