GULBARGA, JAN. 6. Sexologist and founder-chairperson of the Council for Sex Education and Parenthood International, Padmini Prasad, has called for producing more experts in the filed by introducing the subject of sexual medicine in the curriculum. Speaking to The Hindu, Dr. Padmini Prasad said that the absence of qualified sexologists in the country has contributed to the increase in the number of quacks who in the name of treating the people for sexual problems are not only cheating them, but also increasing the problem. She said that though sexology and sexuality are an integral part of medicine, the Medical Council of India has not mooted their introduction as a speciality course in the curriculum. At the undergraduate level also, sexology and sexual medicine should be made compulsory to enable students to have a basic knowledge of it. She also called for introducing sex education in schools and colleges.
Misconceptions
At present, children have many misconceptions about and sex and sexuality, she said. Because of the lack of knowledge about sexual problems, Dr. Padmini Prasad said that the personal lives of a large number of people are in a shambles.
Awareness
She said that proper education and awareness about sex and sexuality right from a young age will prevent people from going astray. She said that the negative attitude towards sex and sexual problems should be given up and people with problems should consult experts to lead a normal life.
