Pension to be hiked from next year

By Our Staff Reporter

CUDDAPAH, JAN. 6. Old age, widow, disabled and other pension amounts will be enhanced from next financial year by making adequate budgetary allocations, the Minister for Finance, K. Rosaiah, said on Thursday.

Addressing Congress activists at the DCC office here, he urged partymen to effectively counter the Opposition criticism. All the pre-poll promises would be fulfilled in the five-year term, he said. The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, advocated better governance but not vindictiveness against Opposition parties, he observed.

Illegal power connections were removed by use of force in the TDP rule, but the TDP leaders were opposing their removal now, which smacked of their `double standard,' he alleged. Refuting charges that the Government backtracked from its free power promise, he said expert opinion was being elicited to streamline the power sector.
