TIRUPATI. Jan. 6. TDP president and the former Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, accompanied by his wife Bhuvaneswari called on his mother, Ammannamma who is admitted into the ICU of the TTD-run SVIMS here after she suffered a massive heart attack yesterday. He stayed nearly 30 minutes at her bedside and talked to her briefly. "She recognised me and talked to me a few words before she slipped into semi-consciousness," he told waiting mediapersons outside the ICU. Besides his close family members, noted cardiologist and Director of the Hyderabad-based CARE hospital, Dr. Somaraju, who is the family physician of the NTR family, also accompanied Mr. Naidu from Hyderabad apparently to examine an ageing Ammannamma who is an acute diabetic and a renal problem patient.
Constant observation
The Director of SVIMS, G. Subramanyam, explained to Mr. Naidu his mother's health condition and also the treatment being given to her since her admission into the ICU in a critical condition. "She has to be kept under observation for some more time before we can say anything on her health condition," he told mediapersons. Mr. Naidu was later closeted with his family members for nearly an hour in a room beside the ICU. Naidu's estranged younger brother, Ramamurthy Naidu, was however absent in his entourage. Coming out of the SVIMS, Mr. Naidu broke a coconut and offered prayers to the Ganesh idol installed at the entrance praying for his mother's speedy recovery. When mediapersons enquired with him whether they could ask him some general questions, he excused himself saying it was not the occasion.
People throng hospital
As a huge crowd gathered outside the hospital and shouted slogans in his favour, he flashed his characteristic `V' sign and boarded his bullet-proof car en route the airport ending his 90-minute flying visit to the hospital. Though Mr. Naidu originally proposed to have a brief interaction with the party workers before take-off, it could not materialise as the departure of the scheduled IA aircraft which he was to board at Hyderabad was delayed by an hour reportedly due to technical reasons. He however had an informal discussion in his car with the former District Minister, B. Gopalakrishna Reddy, on his way back to the Tirupati airport. This is Naidu's first visit to his home-town after the election.
