CUDDAPAH, JAN. 6. The Government will ensure all round development of backward areas, the Minister for Finance, K. Rosaiah, said on Thursday. Inaugurating a water scheme under the aegis of the Joint Farming Cooperative Society at Gopavaram in Badvel constituency, he said that development was confined to some areas in the past and the farmers were in dire straits due to neglect of irrigation projects by the previous Government, he said. The Government would complete irrigation projects in a planned manner by overcoming legal hurdles in the tender process. Irrigation projects were accorded priority and Rs. 4,235 crores was allotted this year, he said.
Medical camps
The Minister laid foundation stones for the statues of Mahatma Gandhi and Potti Sreeramulu in Badvel town. He also highlighted the measures to improve the cooperative sector and proposed land distribution for poor. The Minister also inaugurated medical camps being organised by the Lions Club of Cuddapah for the physically challenged at Badvel Boys ZP high school. In this connection, he assured that the Government would take all measures for their welfare and urged voluntary organisations to contribute towards this end. Later, he distributed tricycles to the physically challenged.
Aid sought
The Badvel MLA, D.C. Govinda Reddy, sought aid for agricultural labourers and improvement of roads in the constituency. The Collector, Jayesh Ranjan, said 120 physically challenged persons were given bank loans last year and 200 would be covered this year. The Lions Club president, P.V. Ramesh, Rajampet RDO, Ramachandra Reddy, ED of SC Corporation, G. Venkatesham, and others were present.
