CHENNAI, JAN. 6. A.K. Srivastava, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, who headed the Central team to the tsunami-hit areas of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry, today said the team would submit its reports very quickly. Shortly before leaving for New Delhi, Mr. Srivatsava said the State Government had given the team all necessary details with regard to the damage caused by the tsunami and the assistance required for rehabilitation. Each and every point mentioned in the "elaborate memorandum" presented by the State Government was being examined before making an overall assessment. The team members visited the affected areas in two groups, he said. One group visited Cuddalore district and Pondicherry, while the other Nagapattinam district and Karaikal region of the Union Territory. They were able to gauge the extent of damage caused by the natural calamity, besides obtaining a feedback from the locals. The spot studyalso showed that the tsunami waves had caused extensive damage in the coastal districts, particularly Nagapattinam. As the compilation of particulars with regard to the natural disaster had already started, the team's comprehensive report would be submitted as early as possible, he added.
