VIJAYAWADA, JAN. 6. The murder case of the SitiCable Managing Director, Potluri Ramakrishna, in Vijayawada, that caused a sensation across the State, ended in acquittal for want of evidence. The VII Additional District and Sessions Judge (fast track court), I. Sivasamba Murthy, in his judgment here on Thursday, acquitted all the four accused persons, as the prosecution failed to prove the guilt. Ramakrishna was shot dead when he reached his residence in Ratnamamba Street from Executive Club in the city at 8.55 p.m. on September 20, 1998. The police registered cases against Devineni Seshagiri Rao, Chalasani Madhu Kiran, Maddala Vijay Kumar and Maddala Babu. The prosecution charged Madhu Kiran and Vijay Kumar with committing the offence, while Seshagiri Rao was named the key conspirator. The case was investigated by the inspector of CID zone, Guntur, B. Ravindranath Tagore. As many as 61 witnesses were cross-examined in the case. Finally, the accused were acquitted by the court as no corroborative evidence could be produced by the prosecution. The special public prosecutor, Duvvuri Ramachandra Rao, who was specially appointed for the case, conducted the prosecution, while senior advocates -- Karnati Ramamohana Rao, Chekuri Sreepathi Rao and P. Sivarami Reddy - defended the accused.
