CHANDIGARH, JAN.6. Even though the second and final list of candidates of the Indian National Lok Dal would be declared before January 17, the name of Abhey Singh Chautala, sitting MLA from Rori and younger son of the Chief Minister, Om Prakash Chautala, would not figure in it. Talking to media persons at his official residence here today, the INLD chief asserted that only one member of his family -- that is, he himself -- would be contesting the Assembly polls. Though Mr.Chautala would be contesting from the Narwana constituency, he hinted that he could also contest from other constituencies. The Chief Minister claimed that the political situation in the State had changed drastically after the Lok Sabha elections. He said the Congress stands exposed thanks to the infighting within the party and the anti-poor and anti-farmer policies of the UPA-led Central Government. Though he said that his party would come back to power, he refused to hazard a guess on the number of seats INLD would win. He said that the main contest would be between the Congress and the INLD. Asked about poll alliance, he hinted that there could be a tie-up with the Bahujan Samaj Party as the two parties had a similar political ideology. However, no talks had been initiated with the BSP chief, Mayawati, in this regard. He predicted that BJP would not be able to win even a single seat. He asserted that the Akali Dal would not be contesting in Haryana and its workers would be actively campaigning for the INLD candidates. Asked about the notice sent to the INLD by the Election Commission, he said that his party would comply with the instructions regarding the implementation of the model code of conduct. An appropriate reply would be sent to the Commission after ascertaining the views of Mr. Abhey Singh Chautala to whose statement the EC had taken umbrage.
