MUMBAI, JAN. 6. The Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2005 that has espoused charity works and aims to raise Rs. 3 crores has further committed itself to make a significant contribution to the people affected by the tsunami tragedy. To start with the Mumbai-based People Group presented a sum of Rs. 10 lakhs to the Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Sunil Dutt at a press conference convened to hear a fresh perspective on the marathon from the race director Hugh Jones. The sum will go towards the Prime Minister's Relief Fund. The chairman and CEO of People Group Mr. Anupam Mittal presented the cheque to Mr. Dutt. Offering his understanding of the race that has brought him to the city half a dozen times, Mr. Jones said the New York Marathon provided `healing touch' after 9/11 and hoped the event in Mumbai would also play the same role.
