Tripta wins Bronze Division

BANGALORE, JAN. 6. Irina Brar continued to top the field in the Gold Division in the South India Ladies Open amateur golf tournament. Despite a card of three over 75, the Chandigarh-based Brar had a 12-stroke lead over Kolkata's Manavi Halwasiya at the end of the penultimate round here on Thursday.

The day's best effort, however, came from Gas Authority of India Limited's Shalini Malik who had a card of level par for the day. Shalini was at the fourth spot with a deficit of 14 strokes from Irina.

Tripta Ahluwalia bagged the Bronze Division title with a margin of 38 strokes from Chanchala Rao. Both golfers are from the host club, Karnataka Golf Association.

In the Silver Division, Dhanalakshmi Rice led by seven strokes over Delhi's Rohini Majitha going into the final round.

The results: Bronze Division: 1. Tripta Ahluwalia 103, 107, 109 (319); 2. Chanchala Rao 115, 118, 124 (357); 3. E. Shalini 120, 128, 110 (358); 4. Pratibha Gupta 122, 121, 122 (365).

Silver Division: Dhanlakshmi Rice 92, 96, 91 (279); Rohini Majitha 102, 92, 92 (286); Madhavi Reddy 97, 98, 95 (290); Sangeeta Varma 99, 98, 98 (295).

Gold Division: Irina Brar 75, 71, 75 (221); Manavi Halwasiya 78, 78, 77 (233); Anjali Chopra 82, 76, 77 & Shalini Malik 80, 83, 72 (235 each); Meghana Bal 80, 80, 78 (238). — Our Special Correspondent
