MANGALORE, JAN. 6. Bhaskar N. Subramanian, senior project manager with Infosys Technologies Ltd., Mangalore, was robbed by two youths near the KSRTC bus station at Bejai on Wednesday night. The youths reportedly escaped in his car along with his laptop, purse containing cash and ATM cards, mobile phone and compact discs, all valued at Rs. 5.5 lakhs. According to a complaint lodged by Mr. Subramanian with the Urwa police, the incident took place when he was returning home. The police said Mr. Subramanian was approaching the bus station when one of the youths came to him seeking a lift. Even as he obliged, another youth came and sat in the rear of the car and the trio proceeded towards Nanthoor. The police said the youths refused to alight from the car when he stopped it near his flat. Instead, the one seated in the front pointed a pistol at Mr. Subramanian and asked him to go to the rear seat while the other youth drove the vehicle to a desolate spot, where Mr. Subramanian was relived of his valuable, according the police. The Additional Superintendent of Police, B.S. Lokesh Kumar, said the complainant, who was pushed off the car by the youths, reached Kadri and went to his friend's house from where he informed the police. Mr. Kumar said the car is yet to be traced. The Urwa police have registered a case in this regard.
Idol stolen
An idol of Goddess Kathyayini has been stolen from the Kathyayini Temple on Car Street here. The incident came to light on Wednesday. A press release from the police said a youth, who frequented the temple in the guise of a devotee, might have stolen the idol. The police said the youth, who visited the temple on Wednesday, urged the archak to perform puja. Although the archak did not relent at first, the police said he decided to oblige the youth, who remained persistent with his request. The police said the youth could have stolen the idol when the archak left to take bath before performing the puja. A silver armour and gold ornaments have also been stolen. The Mangalore North (Bunder) police have registered a case and are investigating.
