BSNL's offer for new entrants

COIMBATORE, JAN. 6 . The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has announced festival offers for those booking basic landline connections and subscribing to Cellone.

The Principal General Manager, BSNL, R. Varadarajan, said that an India Telephone Card (ITC) for Rs. 500 would be issued as incentive along with new landline connections booked till January 31, as part of the New Year and Pongal offer.

This would be applicable to all exchanges where connections were provided on demand, subject to technical feasibility. Installation charges of Rs. 500 would be waived.

Charges waived

Activation charges for those subscribing to Cellone (postpaid) before January end would be waived. Rental for the disconnected period of Cellone subscription would be waived in respect of reconnections and on payment of the outstanding amount.

Similarly, those purchasing Excel (prepaid) recharge coupons during the offer period could avail themselves of full talk time. Recharge coupons activated before January 31 in denominations of Rs. 551 and Rs. 1,102 would carry a talk time value of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 respectively.

Access from PCOs

From January 1, all franchisees, manned PCOs and Coin Collection Box (CCB)-type local PCOs in Coimbatore Secondary Switching Area (SSA) including Tirupur, Mettuppalayam, Pollachi, Anamalai, Udumalpet, Palladam and Avanashi had been given access to mobile services in Tamil Nadu circle (i.e. for numbers beginning with 92, 93, 94, 98 etc). Besides, access had been given to 91 level numbers in the various Short Distance Charging Areas (SDCA) coming under the SSA. The facility already existed in the Coimbatore City SDCA.

Call charges for the manned, franchisee, local PCOs would shortly be Rs. 2 for every 120 seconds for local calls, mobile calls (calls to 92, 93, 94 and 98) and for calls to 91 levels.

This would come into effect after necessary modifications in the CCBs were effected to accept two one rupee coins. For Village Public Telephones the existing call charges of 50 paise for every 90 seconds would continue and they would not have access to mobile service level numbers.
