KOCHI, JAN. 6. The Cochin University Union will organise a national book fair here from January 11. The five-day-long book fair is being organised in association with the Cochin University Library, according to Sabumon M.S., chairman of the union here today. Various cultural programmes will be held along with the fair. The book fair and the cultural festival will be inaugurated by social critic, Sukumar Azhikode, at 5 p.m. Publisher Ravi D.C. and K. V. Kunhikrishnan, former registrar, Cochin University of Science and Technology, will be present. The inter-collegiate elocution completion for `Siju Thomas Memorial Ever-rolling trophy' will be held on January 11 at the open-air auditorium at 10 a.m. On January 12, a kaviaranangu featuring Chemmanam Chacko, D. Vinayachandran, Kureeppuzha Sreekumar, Prabha Varma, Girish Puliyoor, K.S. Sebastian and Rajmohan K. will be held. A ghazal concert by Pradeep Somasundaram will be held on January 13. A seminar on `vayanayum samskaravum' (reading and culture) will be held along with the valedictory session. M.N. Vijayan, literary critic; Cyriac Thomas, former Vice-Chancellor, P. Rajeev, resident editor, Desabhimani and Sunil P. Elayidom, literary critic, will attend the seminar. Three books Solid Waste Management: Challenges and Prospects, published by the Cochin University Union; Vivadangalile Vyathiyanangal (Deviations in Controversies) by P. Rajeev; and Ottamuri Veedu, collection of stories by Sebastian S. Kachappally will be released during the book fair.
