Hyderabad
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD, JAN. 6. The Hyderabad police have decided to introduce one-way movement of traffic on more routes and ban right turns at several junctions to ensure free flow of traffic. "Though uni-directional movement means travelling a bit more, ultimately the commuter would save time, fuel and money," the Hyderabad Police Commissioner, V. Dinesh Reddy, said at a press conference here on Thursday. He said that a three-pronged strategy of enforcement, education and engineering would be undertaken to tackle the traffic menace. Asked about complaints of frequent fining of commuters, Mr. Reddy announced that a "via media" stand of equally focussing on regulating movement of vehicles would be adopted. The Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Tejdeep Kaur Menon, said in compliance with the `national hawker' policy, pavements would be categorised as green, yellow and red. Green pavements would be allotted to existing hawkers on a permanent basis. Vendors would be allowed to use yellow footpaths during particular timings. "Red pavements would be completely free of encroachments and vendors", she explained.
