Tension over eviction of hut-dwellers
By Our Staff Reporter
NIZAMABAD,
JAN. 6.
Tension prevailed in the town today following eviction of a number of hut-dwellers by revenue authorities from Government land, which was encroached upon by them under the banner of the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
On the request of the Revenue Divisional Officer, Krishna Mohan Reddy, a huge posse of police force led by the Additional SPs, K. Koteswar Rao and Sudhakar Reddy, descended on Manik Bandar, Yellaiah Cheruvu near the Giriraj Degree College, Gupanpally and Nagaram where hundreds of families erected huts recently.
Since this operation was pre-planned, important leaders of the CPI(M) were taken into custody in the early hours as a precautionary measure. The revenue authorities evicted, in all, 4,000 people from the Government land with the armed police cordoning off the encroached sites.
