HYDERABAD, JAN. 6. The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has expressed deep shock and dismay at the tragic death of K.C. Surendra Babu, Superintendent of Police, Munger district of Bihar. In a condolence message addressed to the bereaved family, Dr. Reddy said that Surendra Babu made his motherland proud with his great sacrifice and the entire nation would share the agony and anguish of the family. He also sent his condolences to Jagannadha Rao, former IG, who is the father-in-law of Surendra Babu. The funeral of Surendra Babu would be held in Hyderabad on Friday with police honours.
Advice to naxals
Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy also urged Maoists to shun violence and create a conducive atmosphere for long-lasting peace. Talking to reporters on Thursday, Dr. Reddy said that the Government was trying to put reason into the minds of naxalites that violence had no place in a democracy and yet the naxalites were refusing to shun weapons.
A brilliant officer: DGP
The Director-General of Police, Swaranjit Sen, in his message, described Surendra Babu as a dynamic and brilliant officer and assured the bereaved family the whole-hearted support of the Andhra Pradesh police. In another message, P. Gautam Kumar, secretary, IPS Officers' Association, condemned the killing of Surendra Babu. The Telugu Desam president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, in a message, said it was extremely sad for a police officer to lose his life in harness. The BJP national secretary, B. Dattatreya, condemned the killing and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family members.
