NEW DELHI, JAN. 6. Consultations on gender issues and science were the dominant themes for the day as the National Focus Groups on Gender Issues on Education and Teaching on Science set up by the National Council for Educational Research and Training met here today. With gender issues gaining importance, the NGF on Gender Issues in its first meeting on Thursday is expected to prepare the strategy in order to prepare a position paper and discuss various dimensions of the gender issues in education. Besides interactions with teachers and students, the Group may also interact with scholars, activists and the people working in this field to get the direction and prepare an approach paper for curriculum. The one day meeting of the National Focus Group on Teaching of Science also held today in NCERT began with discussions to prepare a position paper to be submitted to the Steering Committee that has been set up to review of the National Curriculum Framework. The position paper by NFG on Teaching on Science would be the source of knowledge addressing the professional needs of the people in the field of education. The group is expected to discuss the strategies to make science more interesting amongst the students. It will study the development of science education over time focussing on initiatives, projects, experiments and interventions.
