NEW DELHI, JAN. 6. Large parts of the Capital were subjected to long hours of power cuts today. Officials of Delhi Transco and discoms attributed this to low frequency in the Northern Grid and less availability of electricity. Residents of Tughlakabad, Badarpur and Okhla complained that they had to face load shedding for nearly 12 hours. "Electricity went off at 7 in the morning and came back at about 6-30 in the evening," said the Tughlakabad MLA, Ramesh Bidhuri. A resident of Tughlakabad Village along with Mr. Ramesh, the Badarpur MLA, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, said the situation had never been so bad during winters. "The situation is deteriorating with every passing day," Mr. Bidhuri said. He has also written to the Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, in this regard. "It seems the private discoms are just interested in making profits and have forgotten their duty to ensure reliable power supply to their consumers. These discoms have not made any investment to strengthen the infrastructure," Mr. Bidhuri alleged. A Delhi Transco official said due to grid constraints they had to resort to a load shedding of 270 MW today. "However, this was only for an hour," he claimed. Among the worst affected areas in East Delhi were East Karawal Nagar, Kanti Nagar, Seelampur, Jafarpur, Bindapur, Chaukhandi, Khichripur, Nand Nagri, Ghonda, Trilokpuri, Kalyan Puri, Sonia Vihar, Shahdara, and Jahangirpuri and Bhalaswa. Complaints of power cuts were also received from Nangloi, Matiala, Najafgarh, Mangolpuri, Sultanpuri, Buddh Vihar, Som Vihar, Rohini, Pitapura, Jama Masjid, Darya Ganj, Karol Bagh, Chandni Chowk and Pahar Ganj.
