This Day That Age
Laying the foundation stone of the College of Agriculture at Himayatsagar, about ten miles from Hyderabad, on January 7, the Vice-President, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, stressed the need for bettering the material life of the people by infusing in the peasantry a sense of self-reliance and pride. He called for the eradication of "social prejudices and economic stagnation which were responsible for agriculturists not adopting scientific methods of agriculture." Dr. Radhakrishnan observed that the spirit of the age was expressed by three aspirations, namely, passion for political freedom, betterment of the standard of living of the common man and the promotion of peace.
