Vijay Kumar wins RCGC Open

KOLKATA, JAN. 7. Vijay Kumar of Lucknow captured his first Amby Valley PGAI tour title of this season. He toppled the leader of the first three rounds, Shiv Kapur, on the sixth play-off hole to pick up the winner's cheque of Rs. 1,62,00 on the final day of the RCGC Open golf championship here on Friday.

ijay's charge started on a quiet note as he pared the first two holes and bogeyed the third. He went on to birdie the par-5 fourth, par-4 seventh and ninth holes cutting the deficit down to just two strokes as they hit the turn.

The scores (after 72 holes): 278: Vijay Kumar (71, 68, 71, 68), Shiv Kapur (65, 72, 69, 72); 284: Mukesh Kumar (68, 71, 77, 68); 285: Uttam Singh Mundy (74, 73, 69, 69); 286: Feroz Ali (70, 70, 72, 74); 287: Yusuf Ali (71, 69, 73, 74); 288: Arjun Singh (70, 72, 74, 72), Mohd. Islam (66, 75, 75, 72); 289: Gurbaaz Mann (71, 69, 75, 74); 290: Sandeep Syal (73, 70, 77, 70).
